Jon Michaelson has practiced law in Silicon Valley for over 45 years. He focuses on complex commercial and intellectual property litigation. He has served as trial counsel – and in most instances lead trial counsel – in cases spanning a wide range of disputes involving intellectual property, employment law, class actions, corporate governance and ownership controversies, disagreements arising from purchase and sale transactions, competition law disputes, and probate law. He also provides general advice to clients in these and other areas of law.
Jon has appeared in federal and state courts throughout California, including in complex litigation departments in San Francisco, Santa Clara, and Los Angeles County Superior Courts, as well as in federal and state courts across the country. He has extensive experience in arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution both in the U.S. and overseas.
Jon has represented companies involved in diverse technologies. This includes semiconductor design and manufacture, broadcast equipment, aerospace systems, computers and electronic components, business application and entertainment software, video games, medical devices, medical testing services, and agricultural technology. For many decades he has also worked with independent schools on the Peninsula and in the South Bay.
Prior to joining Structure Law Group, LLP, Jon served as the managing partner and founder of the Palo Alto office of an international law firm. His legal journey includes over 20 years as a partner at a regional law firm and subsequent stints with several large national/international law firms. During law school, he served as Articles Editor and Managing Editor of the Industrial Relations Law Journal at Berkeley Law.

In his free time, Jon enjoys being walked by his dog several times each day. He and his wife travel as often as they can, most frequently to Europe where they find ways to visit their son and daughter-in-law who live in the UK.
